Built in 1923, it is the Taoist temple of the Chinese of Singapore, dedicated to the god of prosperity (Tua is unknown in China and elsewhere), as well as to Guan Yin, known here under her nickname of Sung Tzu Niang, i.e. "she who gives children". Tens of thousands of Taoist, Buddhist and Confucian believers flock here on an annual pilgrimage during the ninth lunar month (October and November) to ask for the five principles of life: wealth, longevity, love of virtue, serenity and fulfilled destiny.
