A human-sized company offering an immersion in Mauritian culture through its culinary specialties

This company offers an immersion in Mauritian culture (history, lifestyle, particularities...) through its culinary specialties. The first of its kind, the Street Food Tour dedicated to Port Louis not only immerses you in the various neighborhoods, but also allows you to discover the real local cuisine, that of the streets and gargotes. While the walking tour, in groups of 8 or less, begins with a reminder of the island's great historical periods, and the various pauses in front of monuments are always the subject of instructive commentary, it is above all the tasting stops that give rhythm and direction to the itinerary. This is an opportunity to push open some unlikely doors, leading for example to Abedeen's, the Rassol's pastry chef for 50 years, a rather uninviting stall where the whole of Port Louis throngs. It's also an opportunity to learn that you don't enter New Ladies Corner just to buy clothes, but to access a courtyard where Ahmed (alias Mimosa) has been concocting and selling succulent dholl-puri for 45 years. This is how the sites come into their own: rather than observing the heaps of foodstuffs in the big market-bazaar, you can feel them, taste them, like the dragon fruit in the Chinese section...

China Town & Port Louis Food Tour - such is its wealth of gustatory wonders. Also: Grand Baie Home-Made Food Tour (North), Mahébourg Village Food Tour (South), Flacq Village Food Tour (East).

We went on the Port Louis food tour with TasteBuddies this week and I would definitely recommend it. Our tour guide was Rudy who was informative, friendly, and interesting. We tried lots of local street foods that we wouldn't have known where to get or tried on our own. The tour is more than just a food tour though, we visited lots of areas of the capital Port Louis including the street art in China Town and local parliament buildings. Rudy gave us a great insight into the history of Port Louis and the mix of cultures as we went round. A great experience.

This tour was amazing. Great food and guide was very informative, we learnt a lot about the city of Port Louis. We were exhausted afterwards as a lot of walking so make sure wear good shoes and take a hat.

We had an amazing time on our street food tasting tour today, Rudy, our guide is super knowledgeable and explains everything really well. This isn't just a food tasting tour but you also get a lot of information about Port Louis and Mauritius as well which is fabulous, we done this tour and visited Port Louis today with only 3 days left of our holiday, we wish we done it much sooner! We are both vegan as well and there was so many options for us to try, at no point we felt left out or excluded from our group who were non-vegan. The whole tour lasted around 3 hours, with some time to spend at the market.
If you are visiting Mauritius I highly recommend you try taste buddies, you won't regret it!

Incredible street food tour with a very friendly and knowledgeable guide, Rudy. 100% recommend this tour when visiting Port Louis as not only do you get to try delicious street food, but you also learn a little about the captial and Mauritius. Being vegans, we were worried that we may miss out on some food however almost all of the stops were suitable. We tried roti, dholl puri, banana pastries and a lot more. With a refreshing tamarind drink to end it at the central market. Price wise it is reasonable for the guided tour but obviously if you visited the spots on their own just for the food you would be a lot less but the experience was worth the cost.
