In the district of Sainte Croix, a modern church and a funerary monument dedicated to Father Laval stand. This French missionary, both doctor and priest, devoted himself to the Mauritian population from 1841 to 1864. Recognized by all the pious people (of all religions), he was beatified in 1979. Nowadays, a procession takes place to his recumbent tomb every 9th of September and gathers pilgrims from all over the world. Pope John Paul II himself came to pray there. Small museum.
