THE CITADEL OR FORT ADELAIDE
Citadel camped in the heights, offering a panorama on Port Louis and its harbor to all those who can climb up there
Located in the heights, the citadel offers a panoramic view of Port Louis and its harbour to all those who have the courage to climb up there - it takes about 30 minutes. A former military fortress, it was built in several stages, first by the French in the 18th century, then by the English in the 19th century, who named it after the wife of William IV, King of the United Kingdom and Hanover from 1830 to 1837. Made of basalt blocks, it was designed to withstand a three-month siege and to house hundreds of soldiers. Nowadays, it is a place to visit.

La vue sur Port Louis est bluffante, surtout si le temps est de la partie.
