ST. LOUIS CATHEDRAL
Cathedral housing the tomb of the wife of Mahé de La Bourdonnais, French governor of the island from 1735 to 1747
It houses the tomb of the wife of Mahé de La Bourdonnais, French governor of the island from 1735 to 1747. As early as 1752, its site was home to successive churches that were swept away several times by cyclones and valiantly rebuilt in the aftermath. The present building dates from 1933 and underwent major restoration in 2007. The church, seat of the bishop of the diocese of Port-Louis, contains about ten paintings, some of which are undoubtedly of great value by renowned artists (but no certain or official identification to date).
