Port Louis was once one of the most beautiful cities in this part of the world, its noble buildings, in its mountainous setting
It is said that Port Louis was once one of the most beautiful cities in this part of the world. Built on the seaside in its mountainous setting, it was adorned with parks, noble buildings, wooden houses decorated with mantling and shingles. Of these, few remain, scattered here and there or concentrated in certain streets such as that of the Old Council where Baudelaire resided (Maison du Poète). Their charm, intact, is like a breath of sincerity in the middle of the concrete.
