THE ROYAL COLLEGE
A prestigious boys-only secondary school in Curepipe, one of the oldest in the Commonwealth.
A prestigious secondary school for boys only, it is one of the oldest high schools in the Commonwealth. It was originally located in Port Louis and had a simple branch in Curepipe. Following the epidemics of malaria and plague that led to the mass exodus of the inhabitants of Port Louis to Curepipe at the end of the 19th century, the branch became the main secondary school. The present building dates from 1913. It is built in blue basalt stone, with columns and balconies, and has a façade known as "Buckingham Palace".
