HÔTEL ESCALE VACANCES
Quiet and spacious rooms in a two-star hotel far from Port Mathurin on Rodrigues Island.
A little set back from the center of Port Mathurin, in a residential area, it is a lovely 23-room hotel with bar, TV lounge, restaurant and all the usual services of a hotel establishment: swimming pool, mountain bike and car rental, excursions, hiking and sea outings. Functional, well kept... but without the charm of the pensions or the natural site of the hotels camped on the seaside. No major interest, therefore, despite the kindness of the welcome and the quality of the whole, except if you want to reside absolutely in the capital of Rodrigues.

The ratings and reviews below reflect the subjective opinions of members and not the opinion of The Little Witty.
The first disappointment came when I discovered that, despite paying a considerable amount for the full board, I was required to pay extra for soft drinks and some basic and cheap items from the mini-fridge in the room. This additional cost was not clearly communicated during the booking process, leaving me feeling misled.
The lack of variety in the New Year's menu was disappointing, with each day's breakfast the same thing that is two eggs, one sausage, margarine butter, one tiny bowl of jam and few slices of bread. There was no effort to make the dining experience special for the occasion. Worst, the absence of pastries (not even a biscuit) during afternoon tea except a cup of tea and the repetition of bed sheets and towels daily added to the lackluster atmosphere. Fortunately, I brought snacks and stuffs for my kids. Also, the delay in the food service is not great especially if you have kids...
Traveling with an infant and a toddler, I found it surprising that I paid almost the same amount for my toddler as I did for an adult, yet there was no kids' menu available and a designated kids' corner made the stay less accommodating for families with young children. This oversight made dining with young children more challenging and left us feeling undervalued as guests.
The hotel's failure to organize any special end-of-year activities or entertainment, aside from a few crackers, left a void in the festive atmosphere. The absence of animation or engaging events during the festive season detracted from the overall experience, especially given the premium price paid for the stay.
Upon discussing my concerns with the hotel management and gently requesting the waiver of the approximately Rs 400 for consumed soft drinks vs about Rs42K paid, I was met with a negative response. Instead of addressing the issue, the response focused on the checkout time, highlighting that I will be departing at 16:15 hrs instead of the usual 14:00 hrs. This oversight failed to consider my late arrival around 21:30 hrs, where the standard check-in time is at 13:00 hrs. This lack of understanding and flexibility regarding my circumstances added to the overall frustration especially I'm traveling with my newborn and a toddler.
While the staff members were generally polite and accommodating, the shortcomings in the overall experience overshadowed these positive aspects. Unfortunately, based on my recent stay, I DON'T RECOMMEND ESCALE VACANCES to others seeking a more fulfilling and enjoyable stay, especially during special occasions and if you have kids. I hope the management takes this feedback constructively and makes the necessary improvements for future guests.
