LES PIQUEUSES D'OURITES

This fishing is rooted in the local culture and is one of the island's traditional curiosities. Although controversial for the damage it causes to the lagoon, it still involves several hundred women. After crossing the channel in a dugout canoe, it is with their feet in the water for about 2 hours that the pickers rummage between rocks and coral to catch the octopus. When they come back, we see them disembarking in raincoats, scarves and hats on their heads, their spikes loaded with slimy octopus: a scene from Rodrigues' life. Photo break.
