ST. PETER'S PARISH CHURCH
Under the patronage of Saint Peter, the church of Champagnac-le-Vieux is singular in many ways. Much more than a religious building, it was also a defence place. Fortified in the th century and then in the th century, it served, with the fortifications of the village, to prevent looters. This is how the bell has been raised (twice!) and behind the imposing church door, the stone is found in the stone to slip a large piece of wood (plank) so that the door can withstand the attackers. The novel heritage that is still today dates back to the th century, during which this former priory depended on the Chair-Dieu. To note in the church: the monstrance reliquary (classified as a historic monument since 1913), the wooden piéta, the statues of Saint-Roch and Sainte-Véronique, the stained glass windows, a bossue colonnade, etc. Under its massive aspect, the church of this village has a thousand and a treasure, which let itself be discovered by anyone who takes the trouble to seek them.
