SAN JORGE CHURCH
Gothic-Mudejar style church with a remarkable door in Palos de la Frontera.
Of Gothic-Mudejar style from the 14th and 15th centuries, it is best known for its Novios door. Through which the sailors accompanying Columbus left, after the mass given on August 3, 1492. After returning from their journey, they went back there to give thanks to God. Below, the Fontanilla, a small Roman fountain with a Moorish roof, would have provided the navigators with water, since it was next to the pier from which the three caravels left and at that time the water reached Palos. The University of Huelva is currently working on the route of this ancient port.
