Moguer is a village near the capital of the province of Huelva. It is rich in history and closely linked to the discovery of America. The Convent of Santa Clara is where Christopher Columbus took his oath. The town boasts numerous historic monuments, including the Convent of San Francisco, the Parish Church of Nuestra Señora de la Granada and the Hermitage of the Virgen de Montemayor. Moguer is also famous for being the birthplace of Juan Ramón Jiménez, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, whose birthplace has been converted into a museum. Nearby Mazagón has become a tourist center thanks to its beautiful beaches and pleasant climate. Moguer is also home to protected natural areas such as El Asperillo Lagoon, Abalorio Lagoon and Las Madres Lagoon, all part of the Palos and Las Madres Lagoons Natural Site. The town has a rich history, dating back to prehistoric times and having been occupied by Phoenicians and Romans. It flourished in the 14th century and played an important role in the discovery of America. Today, Moguer is an interesting tourist destination for lovers of history and culture.
