Hundreds of "rocieras" brotherhoods participate every year in the Romería del Rocío, a great annual pilgrimage to the sanctuary of the Blanca Paloma, in the village of El Rocío, 17 kilometres from the municipality of Almonte (Huelva). This tradition dates back to the 18th century and brings together faithful from all over the country, including many pilgrims from Seville. People travel on ox carts, on horseback or on foot, dressed in the traditional flamenco costume, to escort Christ sin pecado (without sin).
