TABERNA CASA MANTECA
Go there and contact
A refuge for the flayed and stranded, from which one often emerges seasick! This tavern, which reaches its apotheosis every year during Carnival, is frequented after the El Faro restaurant, in the same corner, before the aperitif or afterwards at the digeo! Above all, it's a time to shake up the cabeza, forget the daily grind and get a kick out of life by chatting away. In the old fishermen's quarter of La Viña, this is the haunt of a local figure, José Ruiz Manteca (b. 1934), a former gored bullfighter and second-knife turned small businessman. Now that the young man has reached a certain age, it's more his sons who run the place, which is borderline filthy but so authentic, where you don't just drink whey! Even ex-president Sarkozy, supposedly allergic to thrills and spills, got in on the act, judging by a nice photo (successful or not?). Outside, a few stools and barrels, inside, two rooms with counters, walls covered with photos and posters of bullfights, a fino or a muscat scented by the ocean and well-oiled tapas (mostly charcuterie and preserves to fill the gaps!). Olé!
