TORRE TAVIRA
Baroque style tower with an exhibition room and a beautiful view of Cadiz.
The Tavira Tower is one of the Baroque towers built from the 17th century onwards (this one dates from the 18th century), testimony to the prosperity of the city's maritime trade at the time (75% of the traffic from the Americas passed through here). Cádiz still has 133 of the 160 buildings on the 1777 model of the city, with a maximum height of 35 meters. Most of these buildings have a small tower at the corner of their terrace, which serves as a lookout point to see the sky. Nowadays, the tower is equipped with a darkroom (with optical lenses and a mirror) and allows you to see a live panoramic view of Cadiz in motion, from the arrival of the boats in the port to the cloths spread out on the terraces. Two exhibition halls with superb panels of historical illustrations (like comic books) and historical and tourist audiovisual projections complete the visit. This is a good and original way to discover the white city and the blue of the ocean, an ideal step to start the visit of Cadiz.
