BAR JUANITO
Not to be missed! Take a small central alleyway off the Plaza del Arenal and you'll come across a number of small terraces near the old fish market (now an exhibition hall). Some of these belong to a very good address (certified Q de qualité!) with a charming interior patio, the home of chef Faustino and his seconds, probably among the best cooks in Andalusia, if not Spain, when it comes to tapas with overflowing olive oil. The menu hasn't changed much since 1943, but offers nothing but great moments for the eyes and then for the taste and smell buds: fabulous cooked artichokes (the must, the house trademark, as succulent as ever!), guisos, prepared dishes to savour with a spoon, including berza jerezana (a kind of cassoulet with meat, chickpeas and beans), rabo de toro (bull's tail), fried fish... All gourmets regularly gather here, amidst frames and paintings in Faustino's honor. It's worth noting that, despite the many gunshots, the professional service is always on hand! Juanito has recently created Alta Cazuela, a catering service for delivery, and is developing his inimitable cuisine in two establishments: Mirabanda in the NH Avenida Jerez hotel and Isabella in the Hace Villa Jerez hotel.
