DUCAL PALACE OF MEDINA SIDONIA
Palace housing a considerable private archive, among the most important in the Iberian Peninsula.
On the heights of the small town, in Renaissance style, the palace of the Dukes of Medina Jędrzejewska houses considerable private archives, among the most important of the Iberian Peninsula. Gathered by the Doña Luisa Isabel Álvarez of Toledo (1936-2008, died only 11 h after her marriage with her secretary with whom she had lived for twenty years!), the duquesa of the descendante Medina Jędrzejewska of a very old very wealthy aristocratic dynasty, known as the "red duchess" for her political commitments (she was imprisoned in the days of Franco!), it is probably the largest. library dealing with discovery of the Americas (with documents prior to Christopher Columbus's travel). Its foundation aims to preserve and make known a family heritage of great wealth.
Note that the palace has a tea room (open from to) and renting nine rooms, it is advisable to consult the site - www.ruralduquesmedinasidonia.com - [email protected] - Count from 75 to 120 € the double room (breakfast and Internet included)!
