HOTEL RESTAURANTE EL CASTILLO * *
Hotel offering 7 bright, air-conditioned and soundproofed rooms, 4 of which have a private terrace
Just 200 m from the Medina Sidonia castle (Roman, Arab and medieval), you'll want to stop off at this hotel-restaurant run by the Ballesteros González family. Since 1989 for the food, since 2009 for the lodging, this stop deserves the highest recommendation. In the hotel, facing east (levante), seven white-painted rooms, rather small in size, sober and restful, including one family room and one equipped for disabled guests. Luminous, tiled, air-conditioned and soundproofed, four of them have private terraces opening onto beautiful views of the agricultural countryside, green hills and cattle farms. Tranquility! A solarium pool is planned for the near future. In the restaurant, boasting a terrace with views and a large rustic lounge, almost everything is made on the spot! Generous regional gastronomy rhymes with grandma's cooking: sauces with wine and herbs, preparations simmered or baked in the oven for hours... With the exception of a little seafood and fish, this very good regional restaurant stands out for the quality of the recipes on offer, the products presented (charcuterie, meat, game, poultry...), the ancestral recipes, and the quantities served (enough to satisfy the Obelix in all of us!). Daube de sanglier, cochon de lait rôti, gigot d'agneau, riz au faisan, saucée de chevreuil, et puis, perdrix, lièvre, canard, légumes de jardin... In a "club de bons vivants" atmosphere, meals are accompanied by a selection of over 160 regional Spanish wines, and end with homemade cakes and tasty desserts: pear soaked in red wine, flan with field-fresh eggs, candied squash and figs.
