The National Police is responsible for the security and protection of citizens throughout Spain. It is placed under the authority of the Minister of the Interior and the Secretary of State for Security. The Director General of the Police is responsible for the operational management of the National Police. The mission of the National Police is to protect the rights and freedoms of citizens and guarantee their security. The national police also offer an assistance service to foreign tourists, to help them in case of need. Finally, the national police are also involved in the fight against human trafficking.
