A cathedral, built on a former mosque, represents the Renaissance temples in Spanish lands
Malagueños affectionately call it La Manquita (the penguin), as construction of the second tower was cancelled for lack of funds. Built on the site of a former mosque (of which the Patio de los Naranjos, the orange tree courtyard, remains) in 1528, work was halted in 1782. The building is highly representative of Renaissance temples in Spain.
