ALCAZABA AND ARAB WALL
A castle located in the historical center, the most important vestige of the Muslim civilization preserved in the center of Marbella
The castle is the most important vestige of Muslim civilization preserved in the center of Marbella. Located in the historic center, it consists of two enclosures, both square in shape. It was built using a mixture of materials and construction methods. There are Roman capitals inlaid in one of the towers, and other materials such as Caliphate keystones. Dating from the 11th and 12th centuries, the walls were punctuated by a dozen towers. Following the city's surrender in 1485, the fortress served as a checkpoint until the end of the war in 1492, when it was used to watch over the coast.
