ARABIC BATHS - VILLARDOMPARDO PALACE
Cultural center with Arab baths in the basement of the palace considered the largest in Spain
The Palacio de Villardompardo, a Renaissance palace dating from the 16th century, is located in the Magdalena district, and it's in the basement that you'll find the baths of Ali (Arab king of Jaen), dating from the 11th century, which remained buried beneath the palace until the early 20th century, when they were very well restored in the 1980s. With its 450m2 and four rooms, this is considered to be the largest complex in Spain. Highlights include the sala templada, with its columns and starry dome, and the 14-meter-long entrance hall. The Arab Baths Cultural Centre - Palace of Villardompardo is also home to two other museums: the colorful and captivating Manuel Moral International Museum of Naive Art, and the Museum of Popular Arts and Customs, which highlights the importance of tanneries and weaving workshops in the town's history.
