CASTILLO DE BURY AL-HAMMA
Oval-shaped castle on a tourist route with 14 towers and a keep
Oval in shape, with fourteen towers and an imposing keep, it was built in 967, during the reign of Caliph Alhakén II: the castle is also known as Burgalimar Castle. Within its walls, you can still pick up remnants of ancient pottery and enjoy fine views of the city and its surroundings from its highest towers. The castle is on the Ruta de los Castillos y las Batallas, a tourist route between Granada and Cuidad Real. For further information, obtain the brochure published by the Diputación Provincial de Jaén from one of the province's various tourist offices, or via the website www.castillosybatallas.com, including a program of events.
