ZABALETA MUSEUM - MIGUEL HERNÁNDEZ
Very interesting museum offering a chronological tour of the life and work of the great masters
Quesada may be on your way to Cazorla Park. So, before heading to the town of Cazorla, be sure to stop off and visit this very interesting museum. The Miguel Hernández Museum was inaugurated on March 28, 2015, in reference to the date of his death, March 28, 1942. And if his name is attached to that of Josefina Manresa, it's because he was married to this quesadeña. To introduce visitors to the poet, author of, among other works,Aceituneros, the official anthem of the province of Jaén, the museum offers a chronological tour of the life and work of Miguel Hernández and his wife. In the first room, seated on a book-shaped bench, you can watch an audiovisual presentation of his poetry, followed by three rooms named after one of his books: Perito en lunas, El rayo que no cesa, Viento del pueblo. Texts, photos and sounds presented in the six rooms allow us to follow his journey, with a particularly moving document, the only recording of his voice by Alejo Carpentier in Paris. A visit to this extremely well-structured space is highly recommended.
On the second floor, the building also houses the Museo Zabaleta, a painter from Quesada (1907-1960) whose style was Expressionist and later post-Cubist, with Picasso influences. Also on display are works by 20th-century masters such as Miró, Picasso and Tapies, who paid him a posthumous tribute by donating some of their work to the museum.
