SYNAGOGUE
The only synagogue in Andalusia and the third best preserved of the medieval period in all Spain
This small, beautifully sculpted Mudejar synagogue (completed in 1315) is, along with those in Toledo, one of the last remaining testimonies to the Jewish presence in Spain, as it is the only synagogue in Andalusia to have been preserved after the expulsion of the Jews in 1492. Once past the patio, you enter the square-shaped main hall on the right. On each side, the walls (north, east, west and south) feature an explanatory panel translating the Hebrew inscriptions on the Mudejar-style stucco decorations. A staircase leads to the women's area.
