MUSEO DE AGUILAR Y ESLAVA
A place to discover or rediscover the educational material of a particularly emblematic school in Spain
This site is highly recommended to discover or rediscover the teaching materials of a particularly emblematic college in Spain. A journey that very often looks like a walk within a series of curiosities, very popular during the Enlightenment. If the Aguilar Foundation y Eslava was born in 1679, it became the Royal College of Purísima Concepción in 1848, one of the first institutes in Spain at that time. This very long history allowed him to accumulate an important historical, cultural and documentary heritage, and justified the creation of a museum located in a palace of the seventeenth century. We will discover three spaces. First, the Museum of Natural History, since the arrival in 1917 of a professor, Juan Carandell y Pericay, transformed the place into a very important investigation center attached to the Real Sociedad Española of Historia Natural. On the program of the visit: elephant defenses, whale jaws, mammal collections, birds, reptiles, but also minerals and herbal studies make it a fascinating and very pedagogical discovery of the learning methods of these disciplines. We will then visit the artistic and documentary part, including the facilities of the seventeenth century, such as the library and the teachers' room. Third space, the Museum of the Passion of Christ focuses on the beliefs and what the historical discoveries or studies of Turin's Suary say. Clou of the visit, the reproduction at the real scale of a Paleochristian tomb of the century, which is closer to that of Christ.
