IGLESIA DE NUESTRA SEÑORA DE LA AURORA
Chapel built over an old mosque after the reconquest, renovated by Juan de Dios Santaella in the eighteenth century
Originally, it was the chapel of San Nicasio, built on a former mosque in the 15th century after the Reconquest. Extensively renovated by Juan de Dios Santaella in the 18th century, the interior features Baroque decorations that take up almost the entire space. Traditionally, every Saturday at midnight, the Aurora brothers take to the streets and squares, singing coplas, popular songs of great antiquity with a vast repertoire of over 300 titles. Although their itineraries are varied, some locals invite them into their homes to offer a glass of liqueur and sweets.
