Tanks with a capacity of 630,000 liters to provide water to the population of Almeria
Built in the 11th century at the request of Jairán, king of the Taifa of Almería, these cisterns were intended to provide water to the population of Almería. At that time a 6,400 m underground irrigation canal carried water from the springs of Alhadra to the cisterns that were located at the present Purchena Gate. These cisterns contained 630,000 litres of water, enough to hold one seat for a city of 30,000 people.
