Located in a modern building built near the train station, this museum is one of the prides of the Almerian capital. It houses the numerous archaeological collections that have remained too long itinerant or inaccessible. It has a large collection from prehistoric times to the Muslim period, but of particular interest is the material from the Los Millares site (Santa Fe de Mondújar) on the Almería coast, which is the remains of the El Argar culture, covering a period between 2000 and 1800 BC.
