Lighthouse hosting a colony of monk seals in ancient times
Recently built (1863), it was built on the ruins of the castle of San Francisco de Paula, part of the defensive lines of the coast. It is reached by a road that runs along salt flats where migratory birds live. This will give you a first impression of the spectacular scenery that the natural park offers. The rock on which the lighthouse is built is nicknamed Arrecife de las Sirenas, because it was supposed to be home to a colony of monk seals in ancient times, whose cries at night were likened to those of mermaids by sailors.
