MAIN SWITCHBOARD TERMINAL
Grand Central is one of the oldest railway stations in the United States still in operation (built between 1903 and 1913), in the heart of Midtown. Mythical in its own right, it's well worth a visit. It was nearly destroyed, however, and it took all the weight of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis to keep and renovate the station. Today, it serves the northern suburbs (MetroNorth), upstate New York and Connecticut. The LIRR also runs here, in the new Grand Central Madison wing. During rush hour, it's a hive of activity!
