HANGAWI
One of the few Asian vegan establishments in New York, which focuses on mushrooms and fermented vegetables.
One of the city's few Asian vegan restaurants. At Hangawi, you won't find any meat, but an impressive selection of mushrooms and rarer vegetables such as kimchi (fermented vegetables in brine, a Korean specialty), as well as seaweed. This restaurant's traditional Korean cuisine will help you understand the obvious differences with East Asian cuisines, notably Japanese and Chinese. The only thing they have in common is the preponderance of rice and spices. A gluten-free menu is also available.
