Dark hipster hotel with unnecessary amenities like guitars in the room and full sized fridges, but beds aren't necessarily placed in accessible areas or are even comfortable. If you're over 30, have bad knees or bad eyes, this is not the place for you.

The feels is very "big brother". The rooms are nice and the bathroom was big. Window opened in our room which was nice because the room was very hot and the heat and cooling until made a racket. Some staircases were blocked off. Great shower!

IF YOU LIKE HOT WATER STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!! With the many reviews talking about the lack of hot water, I assumed a hotel in this price point would have taken measures to fix this issue. But, I think the hotel knows the hot water is an issue and just tries to band-aid fix the problem by apologizing and waiving fees. The staff is nice and friendly and the location is good. But, that doesn't equate to good service or justify the cost of this hotel with many rooms with hot water issues. After the first night and first cold shower, we complained the following morning, and were told that sometimes it happens when the hotel is full, but they would waive the destination fee and send an engineer to check on our oom while we were out-Room 212. Let me say that the water on full was extremely cold, not just lukewarm but COLD!! Oddly, if you turned it down to a trickle, it became tolerable at lukewarm. However, the second morning the shower was still cold, if an engineer even came was unclear. When we complained again that evening, we were offered a new room, which we declined since we were leaving at 9 am the following morning. They again agreed to waive the destination fee and said an engineer would be sent. And engineer never came. When we checked out the next morning, they again waived the destination fee. However, I am POSITIVE that whomever is taking a shower in Room 212 is still taking a cold shower and that nothing has been done. It very much seems like a bait-and-switch type ploy since it seems to be used often if you read all the recent reviews. Given the price point of this hotel, stay somewhere else!! Anywhere else, really. Also the heat/air is not really within your control. So if it is important to you to be able to control the temperature of your room to any degree, again this hotel is not for you. No coffee pot available either. No water available, only for purchase for 9$ in the refrigerator. Also, there was a large gathering daily across the street, which lasted for hours. A Google search seems to indicate that it was a mosque of some kind and that it was during the period of Ramadan. Just something you should be aware of. We even ran out of toilet paper and had to ask for some. Moreover, the room itself was just not super user friendly, lacking in many of today's amenities. Finally, it did not appear that there was a regular doorman of any kind, if you have any safety concerns. This was our first stay at an Ace Hotel, and I cannot recommend this hotel. Certainly, there are worse places to stay in NYC, but in this price point, there are many other available options. We will not be back.

Be wary of rooms with no outside windows, we weren't warned when reserving or checking in. Also watch your bill for erroneous errors as ours did.

Really good hotel experience. Great style. Some details could be improved but we will consider coming back there.

LOVED the Ace Hotel. I did not know what to expect, but from check-in, to the ultra-hip vibe and chill atmosphere, I was pleasantly surprised. The room was well designed, preserving it's old charm, while mixing in humor and cheeky design quirks that greet you with a smile and smirk! I LOVED the experience and will visit again. FOR sure.

The staff at this hotel are so nice, especially Michelle at the front desk. Location is great, very central. Only issue I had was my first room had zero sunlight and the shower was never got hot. I was able to switch rooms, and the second room was a little better, thankfully. Overall was a good stay and I do recommend the hotel. The drinks and the burger down in the lobby were delicious too!

This hotel would be more highly rated if it wasn't for the "destination fee." It just feels like a scam. We didn't need wifi or the gym. It was in the fine print, but not mentioned at check in or check out, the bill came the next day. Decide on the price of the room and just be upfront with it. Otherwise nice place in a good location.

Great hotel except for how loud the rooms are. The windows seem to let all sound in.

The room is old and small and I get it this is NYC. But there is barely any insulation and you can hear everything that is happening on the street throughout the night and can't really sleep.

Another catch, we booked through a 3rd party and got charged by the hotel about $40 per night destination fee, which they never sent a bill and I had to call to find out. This is what is called hidden fees! If I know there is another charge on top of what we have already paid, I would not stay here.

Location was great but the rooms are not well lit. It felt like a college dorm room. The hall ways are also not well lit. I felt safer walking on the sidewalk outside than I did in the hall.

Stayed late March 2024. Here is my experience, may it be helpful to you.

It might be relevant to note that I am a 55 year old man. Active and not old-fashioned, but 55. I feel like this hotel experience is for younger folks. For example, the nice man at the front desk greeted me with a "sup dude?" when I approached to check in.

A dark lobby with loud music in which one is discouraged from bringing food or coffee from outside the hotel. I did not purchase any food or beverage at the hotel, but I might have enjoyed my bagel and tea Sunday morning at one of their spacious tables, generally occupied by a diverse cast tapping away at laptops.

The lobby did not feel welcoming.

Spacious rooms decorated in a modern masculine dorm-room aesthetic. Linens and towels are good quality. Walls are painted dark and the lighting is oddly scarce: a dim overhead bulb by the door, a swing-arm lamp over the desk, and a small lamp by the bed.

There is a turntable in the room and a few vinyls, but the sound quality from the speaker made it more of a curiosity than a usable musical source.

There is no free coffee or tea in the room, and with a resort fee tacked on, I expected that would be included. I was not quite clear at all on what the resort fee covered, as there are essentially no free amenities other than the gym that I could discern.

Honestly I was a little afraid to use the bathrobe for fear I might be charged for its use.

Openable windows, good shades and shutters kept the light out and the fresh air flowing.

The shower head comes straight down from the ceiling and while the pressure is great, that makes it hard to wash. Also the shower itself was a small walk-in with no tub in my room.

The hallways are also dimly lit, so not suitable for folks with visual impairment.

As far as location goes, it's a great spot but I have enjoyed staying a little farther uptown to be closer to Grand Central Terminal on 42nd Street.

Fortunately for me I had lots to do and did not spend much time at the Ace. I will not be back but I am sure they will continue to be successful based on their location and the popularity of their style. I wish them the best and will stay a little further uptown.

I loved the location, the vibes, and the friendly staff. The mattress was super comfy too. There is a Milk Bar in the hotel!

I didn't love the low lighting and lack of outlets in the rooms. The built-in desk/bed thing wasn't stable, and there was mold in the shower.

I would stay here again.

Edit: I shared my feedback with the hotel and they responded to each and every one of my concerns. This bolsters my confidence that they'll only get better.

I stayed in Ace hotel from 3/12/24 to 3/15/24. This was a company trip, so we had 7 rooms booked under the corporate’s account. The staying experience was the worst. Every room had its own problem: some rooms didn’t have hot water, some rooms didn’t have cold water, three rooms had brown water. My room smelled bad and it’s very dark. The bathtub didn’t drain. (After calling the front desk, it was fix the next day.) The worst part is the toilet. My feet couldn’t touch the ground when I sat on it. I’m 5 feet 6.
I read the reviews that have 5 stars. I guess we just got the worst rooms. Is it because we use the corporate’s rate?

Wonderful hotel in Nomad, NYC. We stayed here for our honeymoon in early March. Booked a Large King room. Our view from room 815 was stunning— Empire State Building! The room isn’t heavily illuminated, but we did not mind. We found it calming. Has a vibe— chic masculine dormroom. Still found it stylish. Great value for longer stay, room size, and location. We didn’t interact much with staff, but everyone was welcoming. Initially we had some issues with it being too hot (even lowest temp on thermostat); it can be managed by turning off entirely or opening windows sometimes.

Really specific negatives:
-Way too much welcoming room perfume sprayed when we checked in. Had to open windows solid 2 hours to get it out of our eyes.
-Shower is bigger for NYC, but the spout juts out directly in the middle so not great for bigger folk.

It might be good when you are on a vacation, since the interior is really cool, but it was one of the worst hotel experiences for me as a business traveller.

The problems me and my colleagues have experienced:
No desk in some rooms
Cleanliness (dusts everywhere)
Bedding (it looks cool, but not comfortable at all)
Shower (challenging to use hot water)
Ventilation (not good)
Front desk (the services extremely varies)
Laundry service (front desk refused to pick up and let me bring it to the desk. And let me put it into a plastic bag and leave it on the floor all by myself, saying the staff was too busy)
Noise from the hallway

The location was perfect, by the way.

Have stayed here 3x and continue to enjoy it. The location is central and walkable to what I've been in town for and the rooms are large and comfortable for the price.
