HGU New York
Good value hotel, close to Central Terminal Station and the Empire State Building.
The hotel has the advantage of being just a few blocks away from Grand Central Terminal, the Empire State building and shops on 5 th Avenue. The rooms are small and rather summary. The hotel is located in a relatively quiet block. Unlike some establishments, the rooms of the Grand Union are equipped with air conditioning and central heating. A real plus if you stay in July-August or December to February. The hotel lodges the New York Marathon runners in November and rarely has rooms available at this time.

In response to some other reviews I’ve read: If you want 5 star accommodation and service, go to a 5 star hotel. I get that this is the price of a 5 star hotel most places, but prices in NYC are just crazy high so you’ve gotta adjust expectations.
For a 4 star hotel in Manhattan, this was great. We were given an early check-in free of charge and our room was really lovely. Surprisingly spacious for Manhattan. Incredibly comfortable mattress and bedding, we felt really rested staying there.
Location is brilliant, far enough downtown not to be in the full insanity of midtown and also right by the 6 subway which is great for regular trains up and down the city.
We also loved the value of the week gym membership for the gym next door included (but so be warned it’s a no-frill CrossFit gym).
