Immerse yourself in a typical West Village red brick building, but with rooms similar to the cabins of a boat.

The hotel rooms are very similar to the cabins of a ship; they are rather compact, with the exception of the double room (Captain Cabin) which is quite spacious. There are two other types of rooms, one with a single bed and the other with two bunk beds, both with a shared bathroom. The Jane Hotel is housed in a historic red brick building typical of the West Village, in a charming cobbled street that has the advantage of being quiet. The experience is fun and the prices rather affordable.

Not happy with my experience. Got to the hotel and it was covered in scaffolding and there were all kinds of construction workers carrying wood and tools around. When we eventually found the entrance (in the basement,) the walls were bare and plastic wrapping was covering most of the floor. We dropped off our bags and checked in later, where we were guided up the elevator with 5 or 6 other construction workers making their way up. We got to our floor and it reeked, likely due to the sheetrock and materials being used, etc. The hallways were dirty and narrow and we got to our tiny room (which we expected) but there was little to no storage or walking place for two people. The bathrooms were shared, which wasn't much of a problem. I typically wouldn't mind any of it if the cost wasn't so high. We stayed at this hotel expecting the beautiful architecture that was advertised, but were greatly disappointed. I wouldn't even pay half the cost it was for what we got. Location was alright, pretty close to everything. Service was alright too, I could see that the staff were trying to do their best but they were given nothing. I checked out after one night, planned for 4. I don't reccomend coming here within the next few months, I hope its better by summer because I won't return again for a while.

I'm reluctantly giving two stars instead of one because the hotel is cheap and the location is quite good. I went into this hotel aware than the rooms were small, so I am not deducting any points for that. But I was not alerted that the hotel is under major renovation as of March 2024, and there is paint and dust everywhere in addition to the incessant noise of construction workers and power tools. The entrance has actually been moved to the basement. Also, there were brown stains on my bedsheets... overall a pretty abysmal experience. My advice is to just pay a bit more and stay at a "normal" hotel.

Avoid at all costs. The hallway reeks of urine, construction (with power tools) began prior to 8am both Friday and Saturday mornings that I stayed here, you have to walk through several flights of electrical wires spliced into open outlets to get to the rooms, two showers are shared amongst the entire floor, plus there are literally zero amenities or common spaces.
Oh and there were junior high aged kids setting off alarms in the construction zone Friday night.

I’ve been staying at the Jane for many years as it was quaint, full of history and affordable for a solo traveller. I usually recommend this to friends. But I warn you, DO NOT STAY HERE!! 90 percent of the hotel is under construction and I was actually shocked they were charging regular prices and aren’t more detailed about the construction on their website.
Construction workers started at 7am and were constantly working in the stairwell making it very unsafe for guests. The signage was not clear and you never really knew where you were suppose to walk. I ended up in construction areas by accident trying to find my way.
I don’t know how this is even legal!!! I felt very unsafe passing workers with huge boards and passing scaffolding in the stairwells. Plus all the dust that is everywhere. I’m not sure what I actually breathed during my stay!
This will be my last time staying at the Jane!!
It’s such a shame as the location is perfect!!
