I really wanted to like this place but so many issues. First the water is either ice cold ???? or boiling ????. There's nothing in between. Second, the rooms smelled. Third the placement of the AC/heater vent is in front of one of the two beds. So whoever sleeps in front of that is gonna be cold...or hot. The room size is good for NYC and walkable, not far from A train station.

Good job

HVAC was loud, and pillows were crumbled. Room and hallway smells like weed. When I confront that yo staff, they acknowledged that rooms on that side has that smell issue from adjoining building.
Couldn't sleep ended up changing the hotel.

Over many years I've stayed in quite a few hotels in New York, in all price categories, and I have to say this is one of the nicer ones I've stayed at in this price range. My room, with a king bed, was surprisingly large. The bathroom was also nice and roomy. Fridge, safe, coffee, iron, the room was well equipped. The bed was comfortable. Everything was clean and in good condition. The woman at the desk who checked me in was very nice, friendly, and efficient. I did not use any of the other internal services, so I can't really comment on them. This is definitely a hotel I will look at again.

Me and my cousin had to stay overnight for emergency reasons. We told the front desk our situation. The way they comforted us was remarkable . They also gave us complimentary breakfast. I wish I had gotten their names because the customer service was excellent

Feels a bit like a very nice hostel. Very clean and modern rooms though and great value for money. Seems like the best value in the area.

Surprised Marriott puts their name on this. Tucked out of the way. Had to moves rooms our second day here. Walls needed painting. Heat was either hot or cold, nothing just right. Shower was out of body wash when I got in. Coffee isn't good. Layers of dust on one of the window sills. And both rooms we were in had fabulous views of brick walls.
That said - cute (very small) bar with a pool table. And the staff was very helpful.

Worst hotel experience here. Should be classified as a motel. I'm surprised Marriott would put their name on this property. Got a double room to share with my adult son. The bathroom door didn't close fully. I called customer service to see it. The guy said it's made that way and just deal with it. The shower and sink wouldn't drain and water pooled up to my ankles in the shower. The floor in the bathroom would flood so towels were all used to sop up water.
Drybar shower gel, shampoo and conditioner all empty. Nothing to hang a towel on. Two electrical sockets in room. No charging ports available in the room. There must be a lot of theft at this property because the room was bare minimum without any decorations. Room with seedy and dirty. Horrible property.

Great location if you're staying Uptown. Rooms could use a little upgrade.

Good blackout curtains, high shower head, good a/c, fairly quiet, guest laundry on 4!, great location if you need to be in Harlem.

Active community with lots of business nearby and daily ambulance to wake you up every morning.

I never write negative reviews but think one is warranted in this case. The website and reviews are generally positive which drew me in to book at the hotel. It was a very bad experience. The area lacks amenities. The heating unit in my room popped all night long. And, I didn’t have hot water in the morning. All this for $300/night. I checked out early and moved to a different hotel. Marriott needs to take a hard look at this property. Beware.

I checked into the humble room(the room gives hostel), and my room was dirty. The front desk told me that they could not change the room only the sheets..

First time staying at an Aloft. I've heard mixed reviews from others, so I wasn't sure what to expect.
I love the modern, fun feel. It doesn't feel "stodgy". It's great there is a bar, because you never know when you need to take a drink upstairs after a long day. Free coffee, morning sandwiches and other pay-for snacks are great when you don't want to venture out late or in weather for a bite.
The room is efficient. A little too much. Everything is open shelf design in the bathroom to store your clothing and bathwares. Helps when you need to pack and not forget items, but not helpful to organize for longer stays.
Little to no shelf space in the shower area to put your own cleansers. No fan. Central control of lights by room door is a bit annoying. Rolling bathroom door is heavy, doesn't stay open and is a little loud as it rolls closed on its own.
Biggest inconvenience, however, was the near daily elevator breakdowns. When only 1 of 2 work...you REALLY need the 1 to work, and it consistently did not.
Thankfully, I got to our 4th floor room after intense spinal fusion surgery. But it caused my husband a lot of stress wondering if it would work for me when needed.

This hotel was really nice. The staff was friendly. Especially the bartenders. The rooms had a fun artistic style without being silly or pretentious. The snack bar and free coffee was a nice plus. The neighborhood around the hotel was interesting and had a lot to offer as far as food and things to see.

The only thing that stopped me from giving this 5 stars was the elevator issues. They went out 4 times during the week we were there. My wife has mobility issues and I don't know what we would have done if she had needed to get up to the room while the elevators were broken. I understand things happen, but 4 times is a little much.

I'd still recommend staying there if you're in the area. It'll be on my short list of places to stay the next time I'm in NYC

Horrible, elevator has been down sinve we arrived. On 5th floor and forced to take stairs Everytime I choose to come to and from hotel. I have a spinal and hip injury that is under more stress because they have failed to properly fixed the elevator and pass 4 days I've been hiking to the 5th floor. Ugh ???? makes the whole stay dreadful

The elevator wasn't working for 2 days. Which is ridiculous.
