Most stores are open daily, from 10am to 9pm on weekdays and from 11am to 7pm on Sundays. Independent shops in SoHo and elsewhere have shorter hours, but are still open 7 days a week.
America's favorite bargain stores are TJ Maxx and Marshalls, which sell new, often brand-name products at discounted prices. You'll find golden deals! A shopping session in New York will cost you more or less the same as in France, although the strength of the euro will soften the final figure somewhat. Don't forget that in the U.S., local taxes are not included in the listed price. In New York, it is 8.875% on clothing.
In the United States, stores offer discounts throughout the year, especially on certain holidays. Among the sales not to be missed are President's Day Sale (the weekend of February 22), Memorial Day Weekend Sale (the weekend before the last Monday in May), July 4th Summer Sale (the week before July 4), Labor day Weekend Sale (the weekend before the first Monday in September). But the best deals are undoubtedly to be found on Black Friday. The day after Thanksgiving, all the stores offer crazy discounts, including luxury brands like Macy's and Saks. Clothes, high-tech, furniture, home furnishings, the discounts spare nothing and no one, and can be as much as 80% off. The Black Friday sale lasts all weekend, and ends with Cyber Monday, when you can do business on the Internet. This event is often criticized for encouraging over-consumption. Finally, if you pass a store with the word " Clearance " displayed in large letters, rush inside! The store is closing or moving and clearing out its stock.
While you're in New York, take the opportunity to shop in stores that don't yet exist in France or only in Paris, such as Forever 21, American Eagle Outfitters and Victoria's Secret. The stores are huge and the choice is enormous! Also worth a visit is the boutique of the famous cosmetics brand Glossier, which opened in Soho in 2019 and has only one other physical address, in Los Angeles.
Unless you're looking for a fake Louis Vuitton or a counterfeit watch, the neighborhoods of Little Italy and Chinatown are to be avoided at all costs! If you're looking for New York souvenirs with a difference, avoid the touristy stores in Times Square, preferring the museum gift shops. The Memories of New York store(www.memoriesofnewyork.com), in Gramercy, also offers some nice items with a twist!
