The doyen (founded 1848) and perhaps the most eccentric of gadget and unexpected gift stores, Hammacher claims to be "as nostalgic for the future as for the past". In his large, bizarre space, he offers an eclectic selection of objects: lamps, toys, watches, glasses, alarm clocks, massage devices, answering machines, torches, contact lens cleaners... The prices aren't particularly cheap (this is New York's faubourg Saint-Honoré), but the selection always surprises. Worth a visit, even if you don't buy anything.

Sur le chemin des musées ou d'un shopping vers Rockfeller Plaza, cette boutique old fashioned vaut le détour. Objets très originaux comme le tricycle à bière. Je suis reparti les mains vides, mais ça vaut le coup d’œil.
