With 1,710 seats on three levels, it's one of Broadway's largest theaters. The St James Theatre opened in 1927 as The Erlanger, named after its builder Abraham L. Erlanger. After Erlanger's death in 1930, the Astor family took over the building and renamed it the St James Theatre. The theater changed owners several times, until 1970, when current owners James H. Binger and his wife took over and formed Jujamcyn Theaters, of which it is a part today. The theater offers a varied program of Broadway shows.
