This bar witnessed the Stonewall riots on June 28, 1969. This event is often seen as the first major act of resistance by the LGBTQ+ community against an oppressive system and in response to harassment by the authorities. Considered the birthplace of the LGBTQ+ movement in New York and around the world, it was named a national monument in 2019. Stonewall is still active today, and offers events almost every night, in the bar or upstairs (Bingo Night, burlesque shows, live music...). Great fun!
