This Irish pub on the edge of the East Village would be the oldest pub in New York (but, as always, on such thorny subjects, there is debate!). It opened in 1854 and was closed to women until 1969. It looks a bit like a saloon with a sawdust floor and walls lined with photos and newspaper articles telling 150 years of history. On weekends, it is crowded and very lively, but the atmosphere is particularly friendly.
