APOTHEKE
Push the secret door and enter a padded area that has kept the speakeasy's unique atmosphere intact.
One of New York's least well-guarded speakeasies (the name given to hidden bars during the Prohibition era and today just for the secrecy). Look for the wooden door beneath the Gold Flower Restaurant sign and you'll find the Apotheke, a padded space reminiscent of old European pharmacies, right down to the glass. All the bartenders wear white coats, like scientists ready to attempt chemical experiments. The cocktails are inventive and the crowd young and hip. It's best to get there early, as the place is notorious.
