SAINT MALACHY'S CHURCH ACTOR CHAPEL
Church in Manhattan celebrating mass with schedules that suited Broadway actors and singers.
The most famous funeral in the history of cinema took place here, that of the Italian-American actor Rudolph Valentino. The church is also known as Church Actor Chapel, because in the 1920s it obtained a dispensation from the Archdiocese of New York to celebrate masses at 4am, a time that suited the Broadway actors and singers who usually go to bed late. Until recently, a mass was celebrated at 11pm on Saturday nights.
