Popular red lighthouse for navigation in Fort Washington Park offering a free ride
Located in Fort Washington Park, this red lighthouse offers an amazing setting for a city like New York. The lighthouse is located on rocks directly on the Hudson River, under the George Washington Bridge. It is now possible to go up to the top of the lighthouse free of charge. The Coast Guard built this building in 1921 to secure navigation on the river, which was heavily used at the time. The lighthouse was only in operation for ten years, until the bridge was built, which made it obsolete, as the light was no longer visible enough for boats.
