DAKOTA BUILDING
Gothic Revival building in Manhattan housing luxury apartments with a sublime view of Central Park
This neo-Gothic building along Central Park is now infamous. As John Lennon, a Dakota tenant, was leaving the building with his wife Yoko Ono, he was coldly shot dead on the sidewalk by the unbalanced Mark David Chapman on December 8, 1980. Lauren Bacall, Judy Garland and, more recently, the singer of U2 Bono have also been residents of the building. Some scenes from Rosemary's Baby by Roman Polanski were filmed there. Today, it houses luxury apartments, some of which have a sublime view of Central Park.
