Gothic Revival building in Manhattan housing luxury apartments with a sublime view of Central Park

This neo-Gothic building along Central Park is now infamous. As John Lennon, a Dakota tenant, was leaving the building with his wife Yoko Ono, he was coldly shot dead on the sidewalk by the unbalanced Mark David Chapman on December 8, 1980. Lauren Bacall, Judy Garland and, more recently, the singer of U2 Bono have also been residents of the building. Some scenes from Rosemary's Baby by Roman Polanski were filmed there. Today, it houses luxury apartments, some of which have a sublime view of Central Park.

Lieu tragique
J'avais surtout entendu le nom du Dakota Building à travers l'histoire de la mort de John Lennon. Son mémorial se trouve juste en face, en bordure de Central Park.

Le Dakota building est un immeuble d'habitation de style néo-gothique. Il se situe entre Central Park West et Columbus. Cet édifice est tristement célèbre, car c'est devant ce bâtiment que John Lennon a été assassiné en décembre 1980. De nombreuses personnalités ont habités cet immeuble.

Un bâtiment qui a une histoire, on le repère également par sa couleur différente des buildings voisins et par sa façade sculptée. Forcément une pensée pour John Lennon en passant à côté du lieu du drame.
