Founded in 1976, the museum works to preserve Ukraine's cultural heritage. It is the largest museum of its kind outside Ukraine. Alongside its permanent collections of fine art, folk art and historical objects, the museum presents exciting temporary exhibitions. Most recently, one of these was dedicated to photojournalist Aleksandr Glyadelov and his photos documenting the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In the lobby, the installation Postcards from Ukraine also deals with the war, with its before-and-after shots.
