UKRAINIAN MUSEUM
Gallery in Manhattan housing temporary exhibitions, works by Ukrainian artists and a permanent collection.
The gallery features temporary exhibitions, works by Ukrainian artists and a permanent collection of costumes, pottery and accessories. In a setting of framed, faded posters from past exhibitions, you can see, among other curiosities, a bean-seed necklace, a 19th-century forester's axe with a bronze head and a disproportionately large handle. Part of the collection was assembled in the 1930s by the National League of Ukrainian Women Living in the USA (the association that founded the museum in 1976). It is also a veritable community center for New York's many Ukrainians: café, lectures, debates, film screenings, readings, plays and more.
