Prestigious villa used as HQ alternately by the British and American commands, bought, restored and given to the city

The last Dutch colonial farm on the island of Manhattan. Built in 1784 at a time when mansions were located in the far north of Manhattan and in West Harlem, it is a unique testimony to history. All around was the largest plantation in Manhattan. During the War of Independence, this prestigious villa was used as a headquarters alternating between the British and American commands. Sold in 1871, it was bought in 1916 by the family's descendants, restored and given to the city.
