Roosvelt Island aerial tramway offering a magnificent view over the East River from the cab.

Inaugurated in 1976, the Roosevelt Island aerial tramway is an attraction not to be missed if you are not afraid of heights. The cable car takes you from the Upper East Side to Roosevelt Island in 5 minutes top time. The view from the cabin above the East River is magnificent. There's not much to do on the island, except enjoy the view of Manhattan (it's even more beautiful in the spring, during Japanese cherry season!) and relax at Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park, a memorial in honour of the 32nd American President.

Prendre une cabine pour Roosevelt Island est original et permet d'avoir un joli panorama sur l'East Side pour le coût d'un ticket de métro. A part ça, trouver le chemin du métro (à quelques minutes) pour revenir dans Midtown sera probablement la seule option une fois arrivé sur l'île.

Expérience originale et prenant peu de temps si vous n'êtes là que pour quelques jours. Le Tramway aérien permet de traverser l'East River et se rendre sur Roosevelt Island (ou Manhattan, cela dépend dans quel sens on va) en quelques minutes et change du traditionnel métro. Le prix du billet est le même que celui d'un ticket de métro mais est déjà compris si vous utilisez un pass 1 ou plusieurs jours. A éviter cependant si vous avez le vertige. Peu de chose cependant à voir sur l'île mais possibilité d'en faire le tour grâce aux petits bus rouge gratuits.
