In New York, despite the MTA's network of 36 subway lines, some 472 stations and 24-hour service, locals often turn to Uber. This is particularly true at weekends and when traveling between two boroughs (especially Brooklyn and Queens, which are less well served than Manhattan by subways). Note that unlike cabs, where you run the risk of the driver giving you a hard time if you don't leave anything, tipping is not mandatory. And no cash payment: you have to register your credit card on the smartphone application.
